We Polled 200 Women to See How Much Botox, Filler & ‘Tweakments’ They’re Really Getting

By the time I hit my mid-30s, I felt behind. I hadn’t done Botox, Baby Botox, or anything for that matter. And though I’m admittedly an easy mark for an up sale on any magical solution for a double chin, chiseled jaw, acne or whatever else is bugging me about my reflection, I’ve never sunk in the syringe. Mostly because of the price tag.

But it had me wondering: Are women visiting the med spa as much as we think? Is it just a TikTok illusion—or are people actually scheduling bi-weekly touch-ups for some  forehead-freezing? I took to the polls, asking over 200 women between the ages of 30 and 45 to tell the truth about Botox, filler, cosmetic surgery and what really motivates them to go under the needle. Here’s what they revealed.

What's the Difference Between Botox and Filler?

42% of Women Surveyed Have Had Botox

To no one’s surprise, Botox is mainstream. The not-quite half of women surveyed revealed they’ve gotten it—either regularly or as a one-time preventative measure. And interestingly, according to our sample, usage doesn’t correlate directly with age. In fact, 31-year-olds were the most likely to report having Botox (57%), followed by women at 30 (40%) and 33 (41%). This tells me that younger women are more likely to group Botox with SPF: preventative.

Only About 20% of Women Have Dabbled with Filler

Filler use is noticeably less common than Botox, with just over 1 in 5 women saying they’ve had it done. Lip plumping and cheek sculpting are the top targets—but for most of the women I polled, it’s still a maybe-later kind of procedure. Once again, 31-year-old women reported the highest filler rates (29%), followed by 33-year-olds (25%). I have a feeling there’s something about turning 30 that gets the wheels turning…

Surgery? Still a Rarity (But Not Unheard Of)

Cosmetic surgery like liposuction, eyelid lifts or mini face lifts were much less common in our sample—only 10% had ever gone under the knife.

Most Women Who Get Work Done Do It Occasionally

Of those who do any kind of cosmetic procedure—Botox, filler, whatever—the most common frequency was “once or twice a year” (21%). Only a small number of women get tweaks more regularly, and the vast majority—67%—say they never get any cosmetic procedures at all.

I really am so tempted to try it? But also a bit nervous. My child counts my forehead wrinkles aloud for fun. Gah!

Why Do Women Start?

I asked in the poll why they decided to try a cosmetic procedure, and three answers dominated:

  • Prevent aging
  • Look more refreshed or less tired
  • Correct existing issues (e.g., lines, sagging, asymmetry)

Peer influence and social media came up too, but less frequently than expected. For many, it’s just about feeling like themselves…with a little boost.

The Bottom Line

Some women are all in on the tweakment train. Others haven’t booked the first consultation. Most are somewhere in between—curious, maybe hesitant, maybe saving up. Personally, I find it refreshing to learn that not everyone around me is syringing on autopilot. Are we entering an aging-natural revolution? Survey says: No, but women should do whatever they need to feel healthy and happy. I happen to agree.
